Este artigo propõe-se analisar o problema do terrorismo como questão globalizada, isto é, expressão das forças de interdependência económica e financeira que lideram a interligação dos mercados e sua transcontinentalização, facilitado pelas tecnologias da informação, as comunicações e a internet." O autor foca especialmente o contexto do sudeste asiático, onde o terrorismo revela características particulares potenciadas pelos abundantes meios de financiamento e recrutamento e pela cartelização das organizações terroristas islâmicas, difusamente chanceladas pela Al Qaeda. Caracteriza a composição, funcionamento, estrutura e áreas de actuação das principais organizações terroristas daquela região, nomeadamente: Jemmah Islamiyah (JI); Laskar Jihad (LJ); Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF); Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG); Barisan Revolusi Nasional-Coordinate (BRN-C); Pattani United Liberation Front (PULO); Gerakan Mujahideen Islam Pattani (GMIP); Kampulan Mujiheddin Malaysia (KMM). Refere ainda os esforços e as dificuldades de cooperação na luta anti-terrorista.

China is taking decisive steps to put itself in the centre of the
challenges that are taking place in the South Asia Region and using its economic might as a persuasive weapon to get positive reactions from other Asian nations to its emergence in the regional stage. However, several obstacles stand in its upward way, namely the shady heritage of the Cold War, the remembrance of the Japanese atrocities and the hipotetical creation of an East Asian Community, departing from ASEAN, the small club of Asian nations that China never wanted to be a member. How fair is China willing to play in this game? What are the chances for Asian nations to resist any temptation of Chinese hegemony and dominance, like Japan did under the logic of the Co-prosperity Shere? This article looks at the interdependences existing between China and its neighbors and to the vigilant role performed by the United States in avoiding that China's rising put in danger peace and stability in the region.
